Omari's
Story

Hi, I'm Omari.
I was born and raised in DeKalb County in the State of Georgia, and now serve as a Representative in the Georgia General Assembly for State House District 89.
I represent 60,000 Georgians who live in South DeKalb, the City of Decatur, the City of Atlanta neighborhoods of Kirkwood and East Lake, and the Druid Hills area around Emory University.
I'm a graduate of Southwest DeKalb High School,
where I ran track and won the 800-meter state championship my senior year. I then ran at Florida A&M University on a track scholarship, and later at North Carolina Central University, where I earned my J.D. I've practiced law for over 10 years, mainly representing individuals harmed by unfair business practices.

I ran for the Georgia State House in 2022
to bring some competence to the Golden Dome. Since then, I've passed bills that expand tenant rights for Georgia renters, relieve DeKalb residents of oppressive property taxes, expand student mental health care, and compensate wrongfully convicted Georgians.

When I’m not passing bills, I serve on community boards and organizations
including the East Lake Family YMCA, MTS Sickle Cell Foundation, 100 Black Men of DeKalb County, Inc., DeKalb Lawyers Association, Inc., Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Georgia, and the Clark Atlanta University Athletic Director Advisory Council.

In my free time, I'm still big on running,
but have added cycling and boxing to the mix as well.
